Online Marketing Award 2010Alderman William George Bean founded Pleasure Beach, Blackpool in 1896 and bought the forty-two acre site on which the Pleasure Beach now stands. Various rides, including the still popular Sir Hiram Maxim Flying Machines, were introduced to the area. The First World War curtailed further development of the site until 1921 when it became possible to import new rides from the USA. Over 110 years later and Pleasure Beach is still going strong, and Sir Hiram Maxim’s Flying Machine is still amongst the most popular rides on park.
Pleasure Beach is home to the UK’s greatest collection of classic rides. As well as the Flying Machines, we have five wooden rollercoasters, the oldest dating back to 1923. Although these rides may be decades old they still thrill millions of visitors each year. Pleasure Beach also has some fantastic examples of Art Deco architecture. From the newly redesigned 1930s Casino Building, which now houses our ticket centre and events venues, to the famous Grand National ride station, there are many examples of this beautiful form of structural design, much of it created by the renowned architect Joseph Emberton.
Pleasure Beach isn’t all about the rides though. There are plenty of places to relax, eat and drink before you visit one of our many shows or admire our Spectacular Dancing Water Show.
There are 2 great ways to enjoy Pleasure Beach. All visitors can purchase either an unlimited ride wristband or a £5 Pleasure Beach Pass which allows access to the park along with the chance to experience the Pleasure Beach Express, Chinese Puzzle Maze, South Beach Show and the Spectacular Dancing Water Show.
