Sarah Entered Our Family Fun Prize Draw and Now She Will Be 'King' For The Day!

15th October 2009

Sarah really is King of Clitheroe Castle – and that's official!

"I’m the King of The Castle and you're the dirty rascal!" That will be the cry from a recent competition winner when she spends the day as King of the Castle at Clitheroe Castle Museum on Sunday, 18 October.

The Museum, which reopened in May of this year following an extensive £3.5million refurbishment and re-development project, has teamed up with Lancashire & Blackpool Tourist Board to offer a once in a lifetime opportunity to rule as King for the day.

The lucky winner Sarah Short, from Colne and 6 of her friends – her chosen ‘loyal subjects’ for the day, will be let loose around the Clitheroe Castle complex for a day of exploration, adventure and fun - a day fit for a king (or queen!)

This exciting prize is being offered by Lancashire Museums in partnership with Ribble Valley Borough Council.

The day has lots in store including a personal tour of the museum and grounds were Sarah and her friends will get to discover the museum's new interactive displays, which tell the intriguing story of Clitheroe and the Ribble Valley through the ages.

Following their tour Sarah and her friends can look forward to a lunch fit for a king with a tailored menu of scrumptious local food.

There will be more surprises in store for the King of the Castle and her retinue into the afternoon including a behind the scenes tour to handle some museum artefacts, and the chance to learn more about the role of conservation in museums. The highlight of the day will be an exclusive ‘royal’ presentation by Ribble Valley's Mayor, Cllr Beverley Jones who will be presenting Sarah with a certificate and a personalised memento of the day so she can leave her ‘official’ personal mark at the Museum.

Details are being kept under wraps but the day promises to be a once in a lifetime experience for Sarah and her friends.

Clitheroe Castle has dominated the Ribble Valley skyline since its construction in the 12th Century by Robert de Lacy to protect the administrative centre of his vast estates.

The refurbishment features a contemporary glass atrium housing the museum shop and café. The Steward’s Gallery provides a new temporary exhibition space. There are also new interactive galleries, an education and meeting suite.

The Clitheroe Castle Museum Complex is owned by Ribble Valley Borough Council and run by Lancashire County Council's museum service. It is open from 11am to 5pm daily from April until 31 October and 12 noon to 4pm November – March.

Admission charges £3.50 Adults, £2.50 Concessions. Kids go free to all Lancashire Museums (except Lancaster Castle).
