Lancashire and Blackpool - Far from the Ordinary

24th March 2010

Blackpool and Lancashire’s great variety of top-class venues for business conferences and meetings is far from ordinary.

In fact, as our latest look at this vibrant and diverse area shows, Blackpool and Lancashire offers some of the most unusual and intriguing conference settings in the country.

From a historic 13th-century hall to one of the oldest professional sporting venues in the world and the adrenaline-fuelled fun on offer in Britain’s best beach resort, Lancashire and Blackpool has the ability to do business – whatever the type or size of event.

Tourism chiefs in Lancashire and Blackpool have launched a major awareness campaign to highlight the quality and variety of conference and business meeting facilities and packages across a wide range of sectors.

Tony Openshaw, Director of Marketing at Lancashire & Blackpool Tourist Board, explained: “Our aim is to highlight all Lancashire and Blackpool has to offer to as wide an audience of businesses, organisations and societies as possible.

“We have strong and varied conference and meeting packages throughout the area, with extra special venues that are unique in what they offer, from the exciting and modern approach of Blackpool, the UK’s number one beach resort, to the diversity of

Lancashire, that can offer city centre chic as well as rural splendour.”

For a conference setting that exudes industrial heritage, Pennine Lancashire is ideal and conference organisers have a wide range of venues to choose from.

They include the historic Towneley Hall, set within 24 acres of impressive parkland and the Oswaldtwistle Business and Conference Centre, set in the grounds of a thriving mill shopping experience.

Lancaster and Morecambe is crammed with history. Morecambe offers a great seaside setting with the restored famous art deco Midland Hotel sitting proudly on the seafront. Like the statue of the town’s famous son, Eric Morecambe, visitors can take in the breathtaking views over the Bay towards the majestic Lakeland Fells.

Carnforth Railway Station was immortalised in the classic 1845 British film Brief Encounter, starring Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard. Today the award-winning Carnforth Station Visitor Centre offers a unique setting for business gatherings.

Options for conference venues in Preston and Central Lancashire include Haighton Manor, a fabulous 17th Century country house and The Invincibles at Preston North End’s Deepdale ground, one of the oldest professional sports grounds in the world. The Invincibles is named after the Victorian greats of the game, unbeaten first winners of the League and Cup double. Also out of PAGE THREE

the ordinary is The Ribby Hall Village conference venue, which includes a tree house conference suite.
Blackpool, home to the famous Winter Gardens Conference and Exhibition Centre has stunning venues which make an ideal setting for an event or conference, such as Blackpool Tower, with its majestic Victorian ballroom and spectacular circus. The thrills of Pleasure Beach Blackpool can give an extra adrenaline boost to any corporate. Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks offers a fun alternative for a drinks reception – giving guests and delegates the chance to mingle with its A-list celebrities and Blackpool Zoo, home to more than 1,500 animals, provides an exotic setting for any meeting.

These fantastic venues and many others will be showcased at the Lancashire & Blackpool Venue Show 2010, taking place at Park Hall Hotel Leisure and Conference Centre at Charnock Richard, near Chorley, on March 25.
