Venue Show success

31st March 2010

Venue Show 2010Tourism bosses in Lancashire & Blackpool are celebrating after holding a successful Venue Show at Park Hall Hotel Leisure and Conference Centre, just off the M6 near Chorley.

Well over 100 prospective customers attended the major conference and meetings business exhibition, showcasing the county’s conference facilities, which was arranged by Lancashire & Blackpool Conference & Meetings.

This sees the county launching a major, new business tourism initiative to challenge the ‘big city’ conference offerings by highlighting the variety and diversity Lancashire has to offer, particularly for medium-sized and smaller conferences.

It is part of a co-ordinated campaign, including new website and literature, and comes as Blackpool is also bidding to take ownership of the resort’s iconic Tower and Winter Gardens, as part of longer term ambitions.

The high profile national campaign by Lancashire & Blackpool Conference & Meetings highlights all the area has to offer to the business community as well as public and third sector organisations.

Tony Openshaw, Director of Marketing at LBTB, said: “The Venue Show was a key element of the first phase of our cohesive campaign to showcase Lancashire & Blackpool to as wide an audience of businesses, organisations and societies as possible.

“We are delighted with the feedback we’ve received from delegates who attended. Attendees liked the diversity and variety we offer, from smaller intimate venues steeped in history, such as Stanley House, Mellor, to the major attraction of the Pleasure Beach Resort, Blackpool. It means we’re in a great position to meet all their requirements.”

Exhibiting venues at the show included Barton Grange Hotel, near Preston; De Vere Herons’ Reach Hotel in Blackpool; Oswaldtwistle Mills Business and Conference Centre in Pennine Lancashire; and Lancaster House Hotel in Lancaster.

The event had a ‘Camelot’ theme in keeping with the popular visitor attraction at Park Hall, with visitors entertained by fire-eaters, jesters, wandering minstrels and knights on horseback.

The Venue Show followed hard on the heels of a highly successful promotion of Lancashire & Blackpool to the ‘not for profit’ sector at the prestigious Charities and Associations Exhibition in London last month.
